Watercolor Wonders

This class will introduce students to the basic fundamentals of using watercolors. Each participant will learn how to use the color wheel and how to paint a variety of pictures provided by the instructor. No experience is needed. A supply list is available at the JRC front desk.

Acrylic Painting

Acrylic paints have their own characteristics, advantages, and unique possibilities. In this class, you will learn how to paint using acrylics, get tips on how to use acrylic paints, create your own art work and much more. No experience is needed. A supply list is available at the JRC front desk.

For the Love of Art Camp

Calling all artists! Come discover the wonderful world of art. During this class, students will be painting, sculpting, drawing, and creating arts and crafts. Supplies will be provided. Please bring a smock to class.

Top 10 Reasons to Visit the
Bloomingdale Park District Museum
and Experience Local History...

  1. The Museum is the oldest public building in Bloomingdale. It was built in 1849 as the First Baptist Church of Christ.
  2. Visitors today can view the original 1849 ceiling, knotty pine floor, and some of the original glass pane windows.
  3. Check out the east side of the building --- you can observe two entrance doors: one was used for men and one for women back in the early days. You can see these doors from Bloomingdale Road.
  4. Bloomingdale Academy took over the property in 1860. Geographical classroom maps from the school are on permanent display at the museum.
  5. In 1892 the building became the center of town serving as both the Township Office and the Town Hall.
  6. A jail cell was installed in 1910.
  7. This historic building was sold to the Bloomingdale Park District in 1965 for the purchase price of $1. The Park District soon began to offer programming to residents at this location.
  8. Fine arts and cultural exhibits begin to emerge in this beautiful, significant one room building in the early 80’s.
  9. Major restoration includes an art gallery addition to the Museum space in 1998. Much of the original architecture was restored and refurbished.
  10. Today the unique Park District Museum is home to five different exhibits each year, two curators, and over 1000 visitors annually.
