Letter from the President

The Park Bench News

Dear Fellow Bloomingdale Park District Residents,

Mike Vogl, President - Board of CommissionersAs you may know, Steve Scholten, the Park District’s Executive Director, left our district last spring to take a position as the Executive Director of the Arlington Heights Park District. We were sad to see Steve leave, as he accomplished great things in his 16 years here (some of which I documented in the last brochure). Steve and the Park District Commissioners had developed an outstanding partnership, and he remains a great friend to each of us. We all wish him very well!

So, we Park District Commissioners began the search for Steve’s replacement (with Steve’s help). We listed the open position on the website of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association – the association for park and recreation professionals in Illinois – and on our own website. We received dozens of resumes from Illinois and across the country. There were many, many highly- qualified candidates on our list. After interviewing the finalists, we offered the job to the person who was clearly the “cream” of a very talented “crop”. And she accepted! Carrie Haupert is our new Executive Director! Carrie started on July 9. She was most recently the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Village of Hinsdale. Previously in her career, she was at the Wheaton Park District and the Schaumburg Park District. Everyone we have talked to in the industry (and I mean everyone) has spoken very highly of Carrie. We look forward to the many contributions that we expect from her. Welcome aboard, Carrie! Here are the keys – you drive.

I want to thank Sandy Johnson, our Director of Recreation, who took over as Interim Executive Director of the District between the time that Steve left and Carrie started. She did a great job – we knew she would! All of the senior staff had to take on additional responsibilities during that “interim”. Thanks to all of you.

As always, I encourage you to get out and visit your parks and park district facilities. They are yours to enjoy. Whatever parks and facilities you visit this season, if you see anything that needs to be fixed, please let us know. Our phone number is 630-529-3650.
