The Parks Advisory Committee (PAC) consists of Bloomingdale residents who work with the Park District to advise and make recommendations on matters pertaining to park planning, maintenance and environmental stewardship. The PAC offers a variety of programs and events to the public. For more information, call Ed Reidy at 630-529-3650. The AfterDarks for the Parks program provides you with the chance to learn from environmental experts in their respective fields. Come broaden your mind and your network of friends. All programs are free to the public and are held in the Community Room at the Johnston Recreation Center from 7:30-8:30pm. Don’t miss these upcoming speakers: August 13th – Jeff Chapman, President, DuPage County Birders. September 4th – Edith Makra, Community Tree Advocate, Morton Arboretum. Bloomingdale Park District - Looking Towards the Future The Bloomingdale Park District formally unveiled a new logo on Sunday, January 28th, 2007. The revitalized logo symbolizes four key attributes – innovation, quality, reliability and customer care. The new logo was designed to capture and communicate the Park District’s renewed enthusiasm for and dedication to its residents and customers – today and into the future. Our goal is to re-launch the Park District to new heights all while keeping its customers at the center of everything we do, similar to when the Park District launched its Kindergarten Kids’ Place before and after-school care program in 2000 and when it renovated its old community pool into the state-of-the-art Oasis Water Park in 2005. The new logo blends elements of the Park District’s existing ‘red circle’ – representing community and a passion for parks and recreation – with the colors green and gold – representing conservation, the environment and the gold medal award. The logo is a powerful symbol representing the Park Districts commitment to its residents and also features stylized blades of grass whose visual treatment can also represent people. The new brand identity also includes the language “Where Recreation Revolves Around You” to further convey the sentiment that we hope to evoke in the minds of our customers and to provide a great foundation for our future. Interested in Volunteering? We are looking for a few generous individuals to help us with a variety of projects and to provide assistance at special events. If you have time and talent working on special events, possess a wicked green thumb or enjoy working with children, we want you! Or, perhaps you are just interested in meeting new people while supporting your Park District. Imagine yourself helping our Park Advisory Board conduct a tree inventory or plant seedlings to beautify a local park. Or, perhaps you would like to help plan one of the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation’s fundraisers such as our annual 5K Run/Walk to support environmental enhancements. You say your forte is more along the lines of managing special mailings and administrative tasks? We have volunteer opportunities aplenty! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Anita in the Marketing department via e-mail at aescalante@bloomingdaleparks.org, or at (630) 529-3650. A special thanks to all volunteers who have assisted the Park District. Your services are greatly appreciated.Be an Active Guardian of Your Neighborhood! The most senseless waste of Park District funds is the money spent to repair vandalized facilities and equipment. Vandalism is costing taxpayers thousands of dollars a year for staff time and materials. We are asking everyone to become active guardians of their neighborhood park and report and suspicious activities or any acts of vandalism. If you see or believe to see an act of vandalism in progress, please contact immediately the Bloomingdale Police Department at 911. If you notice any damaged facilities or equipment, please contact the Park District at 630-529-3650x25. Please take an interest in keeping our facilities and parks safe and enjoyable.
