Bloomingdale Park District Board Commissioner Mike Vogl Retires Following 23 Successful Years

Bloomingdale Park District Board Commissioner Mike Vogl (pictured left) was recognized at the July Board meeting with a Village of Bloomingdale Proclamation for his commitment, faithfulness, and devotion towards improving the quality of life for all Bloomingdale residents.  Board President Andre Burke presented Commissioner Vogl with the Village of Bloomingdale Proclamation.

Commissioner Vogl was elected to the Bloomingdale Park District Board of Commissioners in April of 1999 and will have served until his July 31, 2022, retirement.  Commissioner Vogl is known as an very instrumental force in passing the Park District referendum of 2016 that updated The Oasis Water Park, renovated the Johnston Recreation Center, and improved the Springfield Park Wetlands and Ball Fields. 

Commissioner Vogl is recognized throughout Illinois has a leader in park and recreation advocacy.  In 2021, he was elected chairman of the Illinois Association of Park Districts’ board of trustees, proudly representing the Bloomingdale Park District and leading the board in advising the association in its service, research, advocacy, public awareness and education programs throughout Illinois.

For six years, Commissioner Vogl served as the Bloomingdale Park District President and continued to guide the Board of Commissioners in meeting procedures as de facto parliamentarian and resident expect in Roberts Rules of Order.  He led with warmth, genuine enthusiasm, and an unsuspecting sense of humor.

“Mike Vogl gave twenty-three years as a volunteer Park Board member to the Bloomingdale community,” said Executive Director Joe Potts.  “He leaves us with his unprecedented knowledge and history of the park district in both services to the community and in park board representation and direction.  He constantly strived to maintain the high-quality recreation programs and facilities for our current residents and for future generations.  We will greatly miss Mike and his commitment to improve the quality of life for Bloomingdale residents.”
