Popular Lakeview Park climbing rock closed due to vandalism

Published 10/6/2021

The popular climbing rock in Lakeview Park, 240 Broker Road in Bloomingdale, is currently closed due to vandalism.

The Bloomingdale Police Department responded to a call from neighbors around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning on October 2. Neighbors heard banging sounds coming from the area of the climbing rock and witnessed two people returning to their dark-colored SUV and then leaving the Lakeview Park parking lot to the west.

Anyone with any information on the vandalism should contact Detective Anthony Svoboda at the Bloomingdale Police Department at (630) 529-9868.

“The Bloomingdale Police Department will use all resources available to find and prosecute those individuals responsible for these actions," said Bloomingdale Director of Public Safety Frank Giammarese. "We encourage anyone with information to contact the Bloomingdale Police Department. Those wishing to remain anonymous can do so by calling (630) 671-5756."

“Vandalism is an occasional nuisance, which we unfortunately have to deal with,” added Bloomingdale Park District Executive Director Joe Potts. “This damage is different. It is so mindless and troubling. The climbing rock is only there for the enjoyment of young kids. I hope that every taxpayer and every parent of young kids, like me, is troubled by this too, and helps the Police Department and Park District find the people who did this. We ask for the community’s help in finding the people responsible for this.”
