Happy Holidays from Bloomingdale Park District!

Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter! This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

2014-15 Winter-Spring Brochure

January Classes start soon!

A majority of winter classes begin the week of January 5-10. Browse the winter/spring brochure and register online before classes fill up!


Participants may also register in person at the Johnston Recreation Center, 172 S. Circle Ave., in Bloomingdale. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are made only when fees are paid.


And don't forget about the new Grandparent Rate!


The Park District recently changed its residency policy to accommodate resident grandparents and their non-resident grandchildren. Resident benefits include first priority when registering for a program, and in most cases, a lower program/pass fee than those residing outside the established district boundaries.


Elsa & Anna Frozen Lunch

Elsa & Anna Frozen Lunch
Spend a wonderful afternoon with Elsa and Anna from "Frozen," as they sing songs, teach a dance and show participants how to be honorary princesses. Lunch and activities are provided. Fee is per couple, one adult and one child. Additional princesses are $25 each.


Program is for ages 2 and up and takes place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., January 31 at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum. Registration deadline is January 17. Register online with code #204607-A1.

Junior Basketball

Youth Fitness & Sports

Last chance to sign up for Junior Basketball! This specially-designed league is for kindergarten through second grade and features one practice and one game per week on lower baskets. League focus is on fun, skill development and team play. Register in person at the Johnston Recreation Center. Contact Chris Tompkins at (630) 529-3650 for more information.


The first In-House Spring Soccer registration is 6:30 to 8 p.m., January 23 at the Johnston Recreation Center. Children in in-house soccer develop basic skills, participate equally in a team sport, receive trophies, pictures and uniforms and have fun while playing outside! Registration dates are also offered 10 a.m. to noon, Feb. 7 and 6:30 to 8 p.m., Feb. 11. Contact Chris Tompkins at (630) 529-3650 for more information.

Staff Picks for youth fitness and sports this winter/spring include Fun with Fitness, Super Sports, Fencing for All, Snag Golf, Cycling Club, Fit Club and Field Fitness. Visit the winter/spring brochure or browse online for more information about these new classes.


  News & Notes

Photo 2015: "Let There Be Light"- The Museum's latest exhibition is Photo 2015: "Let There Be Light" and runs January 10 through February 14. Light is the essential element of photography, and by controlling light, the photographer creates the mood or atmosphere for his/her selected subject. The works in this exhibition demonstrate the creative uses of light. A reception is scheduled for between 6 and 8 p.m., January 16 at the Museum. The public is welcome to attend!


Adult Programs - The 2014-15 winter/spring brochure offers a number of new adult programs for your enjoyment. Among the highlights are a co-rec softball league, a health seminar series, circuit training, boot camp, song writing, sign language, sewing, adult tap, glass fusing, climbing and a variety of trips. Register online!


Days Off of School - The Park District provides days off of school programming for school districts 13 and 15. for preschool through sixth grade. Activities include games, sports, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor playtime, cooking, trips, special events and a whole lot more. Program dates this month are January 2, 16, 19 and 21. Register online!


Little Chef Cook-Off - Bring out your inner chef by creating and sampling the goodies you prepare during these one-day cooking classes. Come in your best chef's attire and bring your appetite. Deadlines for each class are one week prior to the program. January's only dates is January 19! Register online!

Klub Friday Night Jr. - The first KFN Jr. of 2015 is 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., January 16 at the JRC. The program for fourth- and fifth-graders features a DJ spinning tunes, games, tournaments and special prizes. Admission includes a piece of pizza and drink. Register online!
