Tompkins Park

Tompkins Park Open House

The Bloomingdale Park District invites residents to review plans and help select activity panels for a planned replacement of the playground structures at Tompkins Park, 151 Edgewater Drive in Bloomingdale.

The open house is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., September 10 in the Community Room of the Johnston Recreation Center, 172 S. Circle Ave., in Bloomingdale. Plans for the new play structures will be on display, and refreshments will be served. Parents are encouraged to bring children and come at any time during the open house. No formal presentation will be given.

The park is scheduled to receive a replacement, farm-themed playground in 2016. Bloomingdale's origins are of an agricultural nature, and this project celebrates its storied past. In collaboration with the Bloomingdale Historical Society, this renovation also is to include some interpretive signage near the playground.

The replacement is scheduled to begin in early spring with a targeted date of completion next summer. The replacement is part of the Park District's capital asset replacement plan

"The Park Board of Commissioners and staff of the Bloomingdale Park District are thrilled to bring this exciting new playground to Tompkins Park for children ages 2-12 to enjoy!" said Park District Executive Director Carrie A. Fullerton, CPRE.

Chicago Sculpture International: "Landfills"

August 22 - September 26

Gallery I & II: Chicago Sculpture International: "Landfills: "
"Landfills" promises to be a journey into the world of sculpture that is driven by collective consciousness and a never-ending source of individual inspiration. The exhibit means to present works whose materials have literally and physically metamorphosed from their original, fragmented street; meaning to become an object within a gallery context. Whether interpreted as landscape or lifestyle, beautiful or ugly, industrial or craft-made, intentionally designed or unearthed, the allegory of ideas and sculptures speaks about a culture of social disruption.
