Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter! This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

The Park District offers endless opportunities for your child to have a fun and memorable camp experience. Our summer day camp program is designed to spark your child's imagination, grow new friendships, and assist them in discovering new talents each and every day. With creatively-planned activities, campers enjoy summer to the fullest extent and look forward to returning year after year. Camp information

The Oasis Swim Academy

Swimming is a critical life safety skill. The Oasis Swim Academy teaches participants this vital skill in and around the water while also providing fun and fitness.

There are levels for each and every age group. Additionally, The Oasis Swim Academy offers private, semi-private, themed and group lessons. Every swim instructor is trained by Starguard Certified Lifeguards. Register Online!

 


Kite Fly & Touch-A-Truck

Kite Fly & Touch-A-Truck

Contests, crafts and a mass kite launch highlight the annual Statewide Kite Fly & Touch-A-Truck events 10 a.m. to noon, May 14 at Springfield Park.

Sponsored by Bloomingdale Bank & Trust and the Illinois Association of Park Districts, the kite fly raises awareness of the Park District Youth License Plate Flying 4 Kids program. Sales of license plates go to park districts and recreation agencies to provide innovative, after-school programming for Illinois youth. Bring your own kites or kites will be available for purchase.

Touch-A-Truck features a variety of trucks and vehicles to climb, sit and play on. Parental supervision is required.

Area 51 Exotics also will be on site with its petting zoo including a monkey, chocolate skunk, savanna monitor and more!

Grand Opening

Tompkins Park Playground Grand Opening - Tompkins Park Playground has undergone a complete renovation. Help inaugurate this amazing renovated park with activities including a ribbon cutting ceremony, playground scavenger hunt, refreshments, activities and entertainment 10 a.m. to noon, May 7.

 

Family Outdoor Movie - Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and snacks for a night under the stars enjoying the children (and parents!) favorite "Finding Nemo" at Bloomingdale Bank & Trust. Enjoy the Moonwalk from 7 to 7:45 p.m. and fun movie trivia with free giveaways from 7:45 to 8 p.m.! In the event of inclement weather, the movie will be moved into the JRC gymnasium. Family Outdoor Movie is sponsored by Bloomingdale Bank & Trust.

 

BAA & fotoMuses - The Bloomingdale Artists Association & fotoMuses exhibitions open at the Museum May 7 and run through June 4. The BAA meets at the Museum monthly to share ideas and learn how to handle different types of media through hands-on demonstrations. This exhibition is the result of their applied knowledge and artistic growth. The fotoMuses are proud to present “Patterns,” an exhibition unified by the exploration of the theme of patterns. The fotoMuses are a group of women from Chicago and suburbs who share exploring the wonders of photography through their exhibits. 

 

Garden Club Spring Sale - The Bloomingdale Garden Club hosts its annual Plant Sale May 13-14 at the Park District's Maintenance Facility, 259 Springfield Drive (adjacent to Springfield Park). The sale runs noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It features flats of 48 colorful flowers, premium 10-inch hanging baskets, geraniums in all hues, Proven Winners & Specialty Annuals, herbs, vegetables, accent plants and perennials from our gardens.

The Oasis Water Park Opening Day - The Oasis Water Park officially opens for the season at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 3. New this season is a 30-foot aqua climbing wall!

 

Birthday Parties - Bloomingdale Park District birthday parties are easy, affordable and fun! A wide variety of themes are offered, and all parties include a party host, decorated party room, juice, goodie bags, and room set-up and clean-up.
