Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter! This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

Circle Park Open House

Circle Park Open House

The Bloomingdale Park District invites residents to help select color schemes and activity panels for a planned replacement of the playground structures at Circle Park, 163 Fairfield Way in Bloomingdale.

 

The open house is scheduled for 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., July 18 in the Community Room of the Johnston Recreation Center, 172 S. Circle Ave., in Bloomingdale. Plans for the new, nature-themed play structures will be on display, and refreshments will be served. Parents are encouraged to bring children and come at any time during the open house. No formal presentation will be given.

 

The replacement is scheduled to begin in late fall with a targeted date of completion in the spring of 2017. Island Events @ The Oasis Water Park

Experience an abundance of exciting activities this July at The Oasis Water Park, open daily, 11:30AM-7PM.

  • Boat Floats - Enjoy one of nine paddleboats in 'Cuda Cove July 7 at 6 p.m.; July 11 at 4 p.m.; July 27 at 6 p.m.; and August 9 at 6 p.m.

  • Aqua Climb Days - Ages 8-14 race against time to see who can reach the top the fastest July 8 and August 8 at 6 p.m.

  • Giveaway Days - The first 100 guests receive an Oasis Cup July 19 and Oasis Goggles August 5.

  • Oasis After Hours - Ages 12-17 enjoy a late-night dip in the pool 8:30 to 10 p.m., July 14 and August 4.

  • Discount Days - Admission is only $1 July 13 and August 3!

  • Frozen Oasis - Ice cube fun for everyone 1-2 p.m., & 6-7 p.m., July 11.

  • Bloomingdale Bank & Trust Coin Dive - Children ages 4-12 dive for coins in all depths of the pool at 4 p.m., July 8. Special coins provided by Bloomingdale Bank & Trust earn a special prize.

  • I Want to be a Lifeguard - Ages 7-12 can be a part of The Oasis staff for an hour, 3 to 4 p.m., July 20.

  • Oasis KFN - Splashtastic fun for grades 4-6, 8:30 to 10 p.m., July 28.

Last Chance for Swim Lessons

Swimming is a critical life safety skill. The Oasis Swim Academy teaches participants this vital skill in and around the water while also providing fun and fitness.

  1. Swim lessons teach life safety skills.

  2. Swim lessons calm fears.

  3. Swimming is a great way to keep kids active.

  4. Swim lessons can help kids build self-confidence.

  5. Swim lessons can be the start of a new hobby or sport.

There are levels for each and every age group. Additionally, The Oasis Swim Academy offers
private, semi-private, themed and group lessons. Every swim instructor is trained by Starguard
Certified Lifeguards. The final session of swim lessons begins July 18! Register online today!

Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursdays

Throwback Thursdays - Bring your lawn chairs and snacks and enjoy a relaxing hour of timely tunes from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and up. A different entertainer performs each month, 3-4 p.m. at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park. Food is not provided, so please bring your own goodies. The entertainer for July 21 is Babette Dean, taking listeners on a sentimental journey from the 20s to present.

 

Trail Talk - Put your walking shoes on and enjoy a 2 mile walk around the beautiful Springfield Park Wetlands with a special guest from the community. Guests for July are are Fire Chief Jeff Janus July 14 and Park District Executive Director Carrie Fullerton and Park Board President Buzz Puccio July 21. Trail Talk is located under Adult General on the registration site.

 

Sunrise Shuffle 5K - Support local parks and recreation at the Sixth Annual Bloomingdale Parks Foundation Sunrise Shuffle 5K, presented by Sunrise Chevrolet! The September 10 run is a kick-off event for Bloomingdale's 43rd Annual Septemberfest and starts and ends at the Johnston Recreation Center. Race starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds from the Sunrise Shuffle 5K benefit the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting individuals gain access to Park District programs. New this year is post-race beer from Church Street Brewing Company!

 

Lunchtime Funtime - Enjoy free children’s entertainment all summer long at Lunchtime Funtime! The children's entertainment series takes places noon to 1 p.m., select Fridays, June through August at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park. Participants should bring a blanket and lunch. Groups and camps are welcome! Upcoming dates are July 1, 15, 22 and August 5. Lunchtime Funtime is sponsored by Eagle Falls Dentistry.

 

Family Fun Picnics - Gather family and friends and enjoy a relaxing evening picnicking July 6 in Tompkins Park. Food is not provided, so please bring your own goodies. Games and activities are provided for the first hour, followed by JG's Reptile Road Show as the featured entertainment. More information.
