Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter! This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

Olympic Day

Olympic Day
& Kids Fun Run

Olympic Day & Kids Fun Run

Enjoy friendly competition with family and friends in the spirit of the Olympic Games at BPD Olympic Day 10 a.m. to noon, August 6 at Seasons Four Park.

 

The day features contests, "Olympic" events, crafts, entertainment and a DJ and is for ages 4 and up. The first 100 children 12 and younger who pre-register (402695-A1) receive a T-shirt the day of the event. Olympic Day is located under special events on the registration site.

The Fourth Annual Kids Olympic Fun Run is for ages 4-13 and consists of a 1/2 mile, 1 mile or 2 mile run. The run kicks off at 9 a.m. All participants receive a T-shirt, medal and complimentary one-day pass to The Oasis Water Park. Olympic Fun Run is located under special events on the registration site.


Customer Appreciation Week (August 27-Sept. 2)
Stop in to one of the classes below and participate for FREE! This is a great opportunity to experience a variety of classes and programs, meet instructors and, of course, have fun! Receive a free giveaway when you attend a class. Classes that use Z in the activity code online are part of Community Appreciation Week. Visit our online calendar for dates and times.

Whiffleball Classic

National Night Out
Enjoy a night of open swim, complimentary food and drink, games, prizes music and fun at National Night Out from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Aug. 2 at The Oasis Water Park and Circle Park.

 

The night is designed to generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts through the Neighborhood Watch Program, while also strengthening neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships nationwide.

 

Additionally, Heroes vs. Half-Pints and the Whiffleball Classic are held in conjunction with National Night Out.

 

At Heroes vs. Half-Pints, middle school players showcase their skills against the Bloomingdale Police Department. At Whiffleball Classic, children entering grades 1-4 are invited to play whiffleball with local First Responders. Both games start at 7 p.m. in Circle Park and are sponsored by PT Solutions.

Throwback Thursdays - Bring your lawn chairs and snacks and enjoy a relaxing hour of timely tunes from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and up. A different entertainer performs each month, 3-4 p.m. at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park. Food is not provided, so please bring your own goodies. The entertainer for August 18 is the Dennis Colby Show (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis and more).

 

Sunrise Shuffle 5K - Support local parks and recreation at the Sixth Annual Bloomingdale Parks Foundation Sunrise Shuffle 5K, presented by Sunrise Chevrolet! The September 10 run is a kick-off event for Bloomingdale's 43rd Annual Septemberfest and starts and ends at the Johnston Recreation Center. Race starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds from the Sunrise Shuffle 5K benefit the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting individuals gain access to Park District programs. New this year is post-race beer from Church Street Brewing Company!

 

Lunchtime Funtime - Enjoy free children’s entertainment all summer long at Lunchtime Funtime! The children's entertainment series takes places noon to 1 p.m., select Fridays, June through August at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park. Participants should bring a blanket and lunch. Groups and camps are welcome! The final Lunchtime Funtime is August 5 with children's singer Istvan and His Imaginary Band as the featured entertainment. Lunchtime Funtime is sponsored by Eagle Falls Dentistry.

 

Family Fun Picnics - Gather family and friends and enjoy a relaxing evening picnicking August 3 in Leslie Park. Food is not provided, so please bring your own goodies. Games and activities are provided for the first hour, followed by Steve Belliveau and his Getting Excited About Science program as the featured entertainment. More information.
