Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter! This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

National Night Out

National Night Out, Heroes-Half-Pints & Whiffleball Classic

Tonight is the 32nd Annual National Night Out Against Crime! The night features open swim, food and beverages, games and prizes, and lots of fun! 


The festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. with FREE swim at The Oasis Water Park, followed by FREE food and refreshments at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park.


Additionally, middle school players showcase their skills against the Bloomingdale Police Department at the 12th Annual Heroes vs. Half-Pints Softball Showdown, while children entering grades 1-4 take on First Responders in the non-competitive Whiffleball Classic.


Community Appreciation Days

Experience an abundance of classes and/or programs for FREE September 5 through September 9! This is a great opportunity to meet instructors, experience a variety of offerings and, of course, have fun! Receive a free giveaway when you attend a class. Browse through the fall program catalog and look for classes that use a Z or ZZ in the activity code. They are the Community Appreciation Days classes.

Sunrise Shuffle 5K

Support local parks and recreation at the Seventh Annual Bloomingdale Parks Foundation Sunrise Shuffle 5K, presented by Sunrise Chevrolet!


The September 9 run is a kick-off event for Bloomingdale's 44th Annual Septemberfest and starts and ends at the Johnston Recreation Center. Church Street Brewing provides post-race refreshments.



  • WE HAVE BEER! Church Street Brewing Company returns for 2017! 5K runners may enjoy a beer from Church Street Brewing Company!

  • Bounce House and Fun Run. The Sunrise Shuffle 5K is family friendly. In addition to the 5K, the race also features a Bounce House for children to play in before, during and after the race! Weather permitting. Plus, children 9 and under are welcome to participate in the Fun Run up and down Circle Ave. before the official 5K race. FUN RUN PARTICIPANTS DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER.

  • Race Timing - The 2017 Sunrise Shuffle 5K will be chip-timed by J3 Timing. Check them out at

  • Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each age category for men and women. Awards are presented immediately following the end of the race.

Kids Fun Run! - Focus on the fun at the Fifth Annual Kids Fun Run! This non-competitive event for ages 4-13 consists of a half-mile, one-mile, or two-mile run. All participants receive a T-shirt, medal and complimentary one-day pass to The Oasis Water Park.


Summer Concerts - Remaining summer concerts include the Rockin' Fenderskirts August 8, American English August 15 and The City Lights Orchestra August 22.  All concerts are FREE and begin at 7 pm. Participants may bring lawn chairs and refreshments. The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by Stratford Square Mall


Lunchtime Funtime - Spend quality time with your little loved one and enjoy free children’s entertainment sure to put a smile on everyone’s face at the Lunchtime Funtime children’s entertainment series. The series takes places noon to 1 p.m., select Fridays, June through August, at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park. Lunchtime Funtime is sponsored by Eagle Falls Dentistry. The final date is this Friday, August 4.


Purely Active Adult Recreation Club - Looking for something to do this summer? Drop in at the Johnston Recreation Center every Friday for a FREE activity or event as part of the new Purely Active Adult Recreation Club (PAARC). August activities include National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day August 4, Hand Massages and Manicures August 11, Social and Movie Day August 18, and National Banana Split Day August 25!


Family Fun Picnic - Soak in the fresh air and enjoy a cool evening with Circle Park as the perfect backdrop 6:30 to 8 p.m., August 9. Entertainment and games are offered for the whole family during the first half hour. Some picnic tables are available. Families may bring their own blankets. August 9 performer is the JG Reptile Show.


Westfield Walking Track- Inclement weather putting a damper on your outdoor exercising? The Westfield Walking Track is FREE for residents and open daily for use. Days and Hours


Birthday Parties - Bloomingdale Park District birthday parties are easy, affordable and fun! A wide variety of themes are offered, and all parties include a party host, decorated party room, juice, goodie bags, and room set-up and clean-up.
