Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter! This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

Bunny Bash

Bunny Bash

Bunny Bash

Hop on over to Bloomingdale's most bumpin' time at the Annual Bunny Bash and Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., March 24 at Circle Park and the Johnston Recreation Center.

The egg hunt starts promptly at 9:30 a.m. in Circle Park, 163 Fairfield Way. The Bunny Bash follows shortly thereafter, running 9:45 to 11:30 a.m., at the adjacent JRC, 172 S. Circle Ave.

Both events are FREE! The egg hunt is sponsored by the Lions Club, and the Bunny Bash is sponsored by Eagle Falls DentistryBloomingdale Bank & Trust and AMITA Health.

All participants for the Bunny Bash MUST pick up a wristband at the Johnston Recreation Center beginning March 1. The egg hunt does NOT require a wristband.

Spring Break Activities (March 26-30)

Jr. Master Chef Camp (Ages 6-12) - Participants learn how to prepare new foods every day, from scratch to completed dishes. All supplies are included. Each participant receives a chef hat, apron and his or her own cook book of all the recipes. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 26-29. Extended care is available. Code #202817-A1.

 

Volleyball Camp (Grades 1-8) - EVP Academy Pros teach this four-day camp that concentrates on the fundamentals of passing, setting, spiking and overhand serve. Camp runs March 26-29. Hours vary by grade level. Code #202824-A1-A4.

 

Munckin and Pre-K Open Gym (Ages 12 months-5 years) - Gymnastics open gym is the place to be to burn off excess energy. Cost is only $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents. Munchkin Open Gym is 9:15-10:15 a.m., and Pre-K Open Gym is 10:30-11:30 a.m, March 26. Code #201207-A2 and 201208-A2.

 

Laser Quest Trip (Ages 11-14) - Join teens on Spring Break for an exciting trip to Laser Quest. Pizza is served after the trip at the Park District. Trip runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 26. Code #202903-A1.

 

National Take a Walk in the Park Day (All ages) - Put your walking shoes on and join members of the Purely Active Adult Recreation Club at Old Town Park to learn about Bloomingdale's storied history. This FREE program runs 10 a.m. to noon, March 30. No registration is required.

BPD receives award for excellence in financial reporting

The Bloomingdale Park District recently announced that its finance department’s comprehensive annual financial report was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This is the seventh straight year the Park District has earned the distinction.

 

The Park District’s comprehensive annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel to “meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read it.” Complete Release

Student Art Show

35th Annual Student Art Show - This exhibition provides an opportunity for the public to view the work of talented students in local schools. Students from first grade through high school use a variety of materials and techniques including figurative, abstract and sculptural pieces to create dynamic 2-D and 3-D works. This highly-popular show runs March 3 through April 7 and is a great introduction for young artists, some of who’ve exhibited as students and returned years later to exhibit again as adults. Be A Police Officer - Is your child fascinated with police officers and what they do? Explore the wonderful world of law enforcement by learning from a real-life police officer. Kids visit the police station, inspect a patrol car, have their fingers printed and experience what goes on behind the scenes. Be A Police Officer is located under Early Childhood on the registration site.

Purely Active Adult Recreation Club - Looking for something to do this winter? Drop in at the Johnston Recreation Center every Friday for a FREE activity or event as part of the new Purely Active Adult Recreation Club (PAARC). March activities include:

March 9 - Social & Movie

March 16 - Arts & Crafts Day

March 23 - Bingo Day

March 30 - National Take a Walk in the Park Day

 

Days Off of School - The Park District provides days off of school programming for school districts 13 and 15 for preschool through sixth grade. Activities include games, sports, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor playtime, cooking, trips, special events and a whole lot more. Upcoming program dates are March 2, 5, 19, 21 and 26-30.

Klub Friday Night Jr. - March 16 is the next KFN of the year. The program for fourth- and fifth-graders runs 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the JRC and features a DJ spinning tunes, games, tournaments and special prizes. Admission includes a piece of pizza and drink.

 

Westfield Walking Track- Inclement weather putting a damper on your outdoor exercising? The Westfield Walking Track is FREE for residents and open daily for use. Days and Hours

 

Birthday Parties - Bloomingdale Park District birthday parties are easy, affordable and fun! A wide variety of themes are offered, and all parties include a party host, decorated party room, juice, goodie bags, and room set-up and clean-up.
