Welcome to the BPD E-newsletter! This monthly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the Bloomingdale Park District. Our mission is to efficiently and economically provide recreation programs, facilities and open space designed to provide enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the community.

National Night Out

National Night Out, Heroes-Half-Pints & Whiffleball Classic

August 7 is the 35th Annual National Night Out Against Crime! The night features open swim, food and beverages, games and prizes, and lots of fun! 

 

The festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. with FREE swim at The Oasis Water Park, followed by FREE food and refreshments at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park.

 

Additionally, middle school players showcase their skills against the Bloomingdale Police Department at the 13th Annual Heroes vs. Half-Pints Softball Showdown, while children entering grades 1-4 take on First Responders in the non-competitive Whiffleball Classic.

 

 

Fall Brochure

Autumn Program Catalog

The Park District's Autumn Brochure is scheduled to be delivered to residents August 6-11.

 

The guide features 30-plus new programs and classes in addition to annual special event favorites and a bevy of benefits-based programming.

 

Among the highlights are special events Fall Fest, Fishing Derby, Make A Difference Day, Halloween Party and Sunrise Shuffle 5K. The guide also features new adult classes, programs and leagues

 

Resident registration begins upon receipt of the brochure. Open registration for all residents and non-residents begins August 28.

Sunrise Shuffle 5K

Support local parks and recreation at the Eighth Annual Bloomingdale Parks Foundation Sunrise Shuffle 5K, presented by Sunrise Chevrolet!

 

The September 8 run is a kick-off event for Bloomingdale's 45th Annual Septemberfest and starts and ends at the Johnston Recreation Center. Wolfden Brewing Company provides post-race refreshments.

 

Highlights:

  • WE HAVE BEER! Wolfden Brewing Company provides post-race refreshments.

  • Bounce House and Fun Run. The Sunrise Shuffle 5K is family friendly. In addition to the 5K, the race also features a Bounce House for children to play in before, during and after the race! Weather permitting. Plus, children 9 and under are welcome to participate in the Fun Run up and down Circle Ave. before the official 5K race. FUN RUN PARTICIPANTS DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER.

  • Race Timing - The 2018 Sunrise Shuffle 5K will be chip-timed by J3 Timing. Check them out at http://www.j3timing.com/home.html.

  • Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each age category for men and women. Awards are presented immediately following the end of the race.

Kids Fun Run

Kids Fun Run
August 4 @ Seasons Four

Kids Fun Run - Focus on the fun at the Sixth Annual Kids Superhero Fun Run 9 a.m., August 4 at Seasons Four Park! This non-competitive event for kids ages 4-13 consists of a half-mile, one-mile, or two-mile run. All participants receive a T-shirt, medal and complimentary one-day pass to The Oasis Water Park. Registration deadline is Thursday. Kids Fun Run is located under Special Events on the registration site.

 

Summer Concerts - American English concludes the Summer Concert Series season August 14 at Old Town Park. The Beatles tribute band plays at 7 p.m. Food truck for the night is Doctor Dogs. The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by Stratford Square Mall

 

Lunchtime Funtime - Spend quality time with your little loved one and enjoy free children’s entertainment sure to put a smile on everyone’s face at the Lunchtime Funtime children’s entertainment series. The final Lunchtime Funtime with Magician Scott Green is August 3 at the Homola Picnic Shelter in Circle Park. Lunchtime Funtime is sponsored by Eagle Falls Dentistry.

 

Family Fun Picnic - Soak in the fresh air and enjoy a cool evening with Springfield Park as the perfect backdrop 6:30 to 8 p.m., August 8. Food is not provided, so please bring your own goodies. Entertainment and games are offered for the whole family during the first half hour. Some picnic tables are available. Families may bring their own blankets. The John Measner Magic and Comedy Show is the featured entertainer.

 

Summer Fun Park Days - Have you visited the farm-themed playground at Tompkins Park? What about the nature-themed and fully-accessible playground at Sunnyside Park. Have you explored the labyrinth, checked out the GAGA pit or borrowed a book from the Little Library at Circle Park? Explore all of the aforementioned park features and more this summer along with some spontaneous family-friendly fun at Summer Fun Park Days. Activities may include crafts, obstacle courses, chalk, bubbles and more. No registration is required. Program is weather dependent. Purely Active Adult Recreation Club - Looking for something to do on Fridays? Drop in at the Fire Department or BPD Museum 10 a.m. to noon every week for a FREE activity or event as part of the Purely Active Adult Recreation Club (PAARC). Upcoming activities include:

Westfield Walking Track- Inclement weather putting a damper on your outdoor exercising? The Westfield Walking Track is FREE for residents and open daily for use. Days and Hours

 

Birthday Parties - Bloomingdale Park District birthday parties are easy, affordable and fun! A wide variety of themes are offered, and all parties include a party host, decorated party room, juice, goodie bags, and room set-up and clean-up.

 

Rentals - Planning an event? We have your solution! Visit our rental pages for a variety of park, field, gym, water park and other rental options. Detailed rental binders also are available for viewing at the Bloomingdale Park District front office.
