BAC Lacrosse Information Session

When: Friday, January 31, 2020 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Bloomingdale Athletic Club is very excited to announce that our organization is adding Boys lacrosse to our athletic programming for this spring season! We plan to hold an information session for anyone interested in learning more. Parents will be able to ask questions and prospective players will have an opportunity to practice catching and throwing, while learning the basics of the sport. Girls are certainly welcome to join as well, and our plans are to add girls only teams in the near future!

• DATE: Friday 1/31/20
• TIME: 6-8 PM
• PLACE: Johnston Recreation Center (172 S Circle Ave, Bloomingdale, IL 60108) – Main Gym

Prospects DO NOT need previous experience. As this is our initial season, Bloomingdale Bears lacrosse is for players with little to no experience. And we’ll play teams with similar skill levels. We’re also looking for parent volunteers to coach our teams. The Lake Park Lacrosse Club coaches and captains will provide coaches with basic training.

Email Sanjay Merchant at with questions. If you’re interested in learning more, please fill out our Interest Form whether you are able to attend the Friday information session or not.

Lacrosse is North America’s oldest sport being played by Native Americans for hundreds of years, and it’s growing rapidly in Illinois. In 2019 the True Illinois 2024 team—a team comprised of the best 13 year old players in the Chicago-area—participated in the World Series of Youth Lacrosse in Denver, against the best youth programs in the world. True Illinois ended up being ranked 4th in the world, which is the highest ranking a Midwest team has ever achieved. There are already excellent players in our area and the sport is growing tremendously.

Boys who love football or hockey will love the contact of lacrosse; basketball and hockey players will understand the quick ball movement and game play; soccer players will love the pace. It’s an excellent complementary sport, or simply a great option for fun and spring conditioning.

Bloomingdale will field four teams: “Majors” (7thand 8th graders), “Minors” (5th and 6th graders), “Juniors” (3rd and 4th graders), and “Minis” (1stand 2nd graders), playing in the Illinois Boys Lacrosse Association. Our season runs from March 29th to June 7th, which includes 4 home games, 4 away games, an all-star game, and playoffs. Individual teams can also opt to participate in non-league tournaments.

New players will need to buy the following equipment:
• Stick
• Helmet
• Shoulder Pads
• Elbow Pads
• Gloves
• Cup
• Cleats
Dick’s Sporting Goods and PlayItAgain Sports are good options for equipment. Finding inexpensive equipment online is an even better option. Some equipment is very expensive and some is quite affordable. Buying expensive equipment is usually not worth the cost; affordable equipment is more than sufficient for both new and experienced players. We hope you are all excited as our BAC board of directors are in bringing your athlete another option this spring!
