Go Orange Day
When: Thursday, September 10, 2020
Thursday, September 10 is "Go Orange Day," the official kickoff for Hunger Action Month. Hunger Action Month is a nationwide campaign to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger.
Feeding America has projected an increase in food insecurity during the upcoming year due to the health and economic impact of COVID-19. For the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s 13-county service area, this could result in a 70% increase in food insecure neighbors, resulting in an additional 200,000 people, with 1 in 5 children not knowing where their next meal is coming from.
Non-perishable food and personal care items will be accepted during the month of September at the following Bloomingdale locations:
Village Hall - 201 S. Bloomingdale Rd.
Library - 101 Fairfield Way
Fire Department - 179 S. Bloomingdale Rd.
Park District - 172 S. Circle Ave.
Township Food Pantry- 123 Rosedale Ave. (Year round)
In addition, the community is also encouraged to:
1. Wear Orange to Work or School on GO ORANGE DAY. Share your photos at #ILHungerAction;
2. Donate Food and Supplies to local food pantries year round;
3. Spark a conversation about hunger with friends, family, coworkers, and on social media;
4. Volunteer at a local food pantry, collecting and/or delivering food to those in need.
